Johann Eberhardt Ream was born/baptized, 6/8 October 1687, in Leimen, Heidelberg, Germany, the son of Hans Andreas Riehm. His mother's name has not been confirmed.[1][2]

He married Anna Elisabetha Schwab, 5 Apr 1712, in Leimen, Heidelberg, Baden, Germany. She is the daughter of Jost Schwab and Anna Katherine Wolfhardt.[3]

Eberhard followed the trade of baker as did his father-in-law, Jost Schwab. He emigrated with his wife, two children, and his in-laws from Germany with the son of William Penn. They emigrated from Leimen to Rotterdam to Philadelphia/Conestoga in the fall of 1717. He is first mentioned in the records of the Pequea Valley where he asked for a grant of 200 acres of land bordering the Pequa Valley Creek that included a small Indian settlement called "Cocalico." He had the Indians' consent to settle there and the purchase money. The area was known as Mud River.[1] Eberhard Ream, Baker, appears in the 1718 Philadelphia tax list.[4]

Eberhard and his sons John, Jacob and Nicholas are listed in the 1751 tax list for Cocalico Township, Lancaster, Pennsylvania.[5]

Eberhard Ream died, 22 Aug 1779, in what is now Reamstown, East Cocalico Township, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He is buried in the Ream-Reddig Cemetery. The following inscription appears on his tombstone[2]
