Biography

GEORGE REANEY, son of Robert and Jane (Douglas) Reaney, was born March 27 1861 on a farm near Metcalfe Village, Ontario.^[1][2][3]

That is the date found in Bertie's bible. However, the 1901 census shows March 1863 as his date of birth. George initially worked on the family farm as we can confirm by viewing the census links on his father's profile.

George married a neighbour, Henrietta Albertie Lillian Waddell, daughter of Alexander James and Georgena Ann (Dycie) Waddell, on September 26, 1894 at Hurdsman's Bridge, Ottawa, Ontario. According to his marriage licence^[4], he was a bachelor, a farmer, and a Methodist at the time of his marriage to Bertie.

His daughters Elva and Ethel said they believed that after a disagreement with his father, George left the family home and carved his farm^[5][6][7]

out of the wilderness, about one mile north of Metcalfe. He was a farmer in the Metcalfe area all his life. He would take the produce into the Byward Market in Ottawa on market days.

One neighbor was hear to say that 'George was a true Irishman in every way and it was a good thing the horse knew the way home from the market'.

His daughter Elva said her father also worked in real estate and had some stocks and property.

George died of paralysis August 15, 1921^[8] in Metcalfe, Ontario and was buried two days later at Metcalfe Union Cemetery^[9].

His son Maynard took over the running of the farm, later buying it from his mother.
