Johanna was born in about 1829.
She married Joseph Belfit in 1858 in Brentford, Middlesex, England[1].
They had eight children when they emigrated from England to New Zealand on board the Ship Golden Sea under Captain Strachan, sailing from London on the 29th January 1874 - arriving into Wellington on 1st May 1874. She brought 368 immigrants, and during the voyage there were eight deaths from scarlet fever, the ship being placed in quarantine upon arrival[2]. Their youngest child Alice was only two months old.
Johanna and her family settled in Feilding, in the Manawatu.
She passed away in 1913 at the age of about 84 and was buried on 31 August 1913 at Feilding Cemetery, Feilding, Manawatu, New Zealand. Sub/Block: 1, Row: 137, Plot Number: 113[3]
