Ella Nora "Ellie," daughter of Jacob Rebman and Susan Klatfelder,[1] was born about 1878 in West Manchester Township, York County, Pennsylvania.[2][3][4] She was raised there in a large family that lived in West Manchester, York County, in 1880, The household then included her parents Jacob (age 56, farmer) and Susan Rebman (36), Ella Nora "Ellie" (1), her siblings Amanda Elizabeth (15), Peter Franklin (13, farmhand), Edward Eugene (10, farmhand), Albert (9), Katie May (7), Sallie S. On 14 June 1900 in York County, Pennsylvania, she married Samuel Paul Stauffer,[5] son of Daniel Stauffer and Fanny Long.[6] They had seven children, but have no known grandchildren.

By 1910 the couple had settled in Philadelphia, where the household was composed of Samuel P. (age 42, U.S. Custom House clerk), Ella N. Stauffer (31) and their children Russell Arthur (8), Ruth D (7), Ethel Frances (5) and Harold Fred (1).[3]
