Wharton Rector was born January 4, 1775, in Rectorown, Fauquire County, Virginia, the son of Frederick Rector and Elizabeth Conner. He married Mary Margaret Vance in 1791 and they had at least five children.
Wharton died February 24, 1842 in Arkansas.[1]

This Wharton Rector (1775-1842), his father, brothers and their descendants are well-known in Arkansas history. The Rector and allied Sevier, Johnson, and Conway families were known as "The Dynasty" in the Arkansas' territorial days and its early statehood.

Sources have noted that when Harriet Amanda Rector Wells, daughter of Mary and Wharton, died in 1834, Wharton was living in Arkansas and Mary in Missouri. Independent of this data, an inference could be made that at some point Wharton and Mary separated/divorced and each remarried.
