DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Frances by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Frances:
I'll try to find these papers, or I may have to go to Monticello & get another copy. JA Reds family has been a mix that I have not figured out, but you have shed some more light on him with the McGraw lady and the record of his CSA. I wonder why he joined CSA in Louisiana and not the unit in Brookhaven. So many unanswered questions. I did find where Francis went with her mother in 1870 Census. I need to look back on this to be sure I'm correct.
Nathan, I have been looking at this a lot recently. My info was from a while ago and I'm having some serious questions about JA Redd's second wife. I feel comfortable about her marriage to John K. (J.K.) Hunter. Her relationship with Jackson Andrew is making me question what I thought I knew so I'm trying to find more. I do feel pretty certain that my 2nd great grandmother was Frances Arzelia (where did that name come from - I failed to note where I found it) Redd who married Christopher Columbus Sutton. Their oldest child was Ione Pauline "Onie" Sutton Lehl. She died I believe when I was 5 years old and I do remember going with my mom to visit her and to visit her husband Henry Lehl at their farm home after Onie passed. Any info on this part of my family would be so appreciated and I am more than willing to share what I know or what I think I know.
Nathan, Rebecca Evans cannot be the mother of Frances Arzelia Redd (Apr 1854-May 1, 1930) . I show her mother was Elizabeth Almanda McGraw (1819-1882). The trouble is I find a marriage record for Elizabeth McGraw and Jackson Redd in 1860, but Frances Arzelia's birth as 1854. Elizabeth Almanda McGraw was the daughter of Harry Singleton Mcgraw and Mary White. She married 3 times: Jonathan Purvis Newman (they had a daughter named Mary Elizabeth Newman); Jackson Andrew Redd; and John K. Hunter. In 1870 John K. Hunter, Almanda (difficult to read) and her daughter listed as Red, A M F are living in Lincoln County, Mississippi. I would make these changes but I don't feel I have firm proof for all this information. I am the 2nd great granddaughter Frances Arzelia Redd Sutton. Frances was the mother of my great grandmother Ione Pauline "Onie" Sutton (who I knew). Onie was my mother's grandmother and raised my mother from infancy. She was also the main reason my parents met. What I would like to know is why Christopher Columbus Sutton and Frances Arzelia Redd moved from Lincoln County, Mississippi to Denver but there is no one left who could possibly tell me.

Jackson was born about 1825. He passed away after January 1861 when he purchased the Simpson Stewart Plantation w/down payment of Confederate money. The war started April 12, 1861. He may have been in the CSA but nothing to back this up. Levi L Red had bond on children July 1861 & they were living in his household. Have found no more information since.

Red-135 and Redd-632 are not ready to be merged because: I believe these are the same person. Rebecca Evans may not be the mother since Jackson was married more than one time. He also died in the early 1860's and his dad Levi L Red, raised the kids. There are papers in the Lawrence County, Ms. courthouse that reflects this also.
Having some difficulty finding Frances Redd and her parents. Her father (If I have him correctly) was married multiple times. He married Rebecca Evans (marriage record), Elizabeth Alameda Unknown, and Elizabeth McGraw (marriage record).
