Helena was born in 1895. She is the daughter of William Reddan and Anne Quinlisk. In the 1911 census, she is listed as 'Lilly', and in 1901, aged 4, as 'Ellen'. It might be supposed, from this evidence, that she was given the name Ellen after her paternal grandmother Ellen Reddan nee Nolan, but assumed the name Lilly for herself.
