Research Notes

There are a number of recorded variations which continue past 1600: Readhead, Readheade, Readhed, Readheed, Redhed, Reedhead, Reedheade. Rothbury Forest habitations changed and decreased as small farmholdings were absorbed, such as the cultivated lands of 'Dukes Cottages', and coal mining at 'Bushy Gap' was eventually abandoned. This is recorded in the publication 'Upper Coquetdale, Northumberland', p.477.[3] It has not been posible to cite any Redheads as living in Dukes Cottages, or if they were a part of Buckley Hall where son William Redhead was later cited as living.
