Biography

Eve Ann Redman was born on 25 Mar 1783. Oral history states she was the daughter of John or Wolverton Redman & Eva Redman. (Link with Hardy Co. Va. Redman Family descendants have been found, who are of mixed races). At this early time in history in this area, the state boundaries were shifting & her birthplace has been listed as Maryland & Virginia & Pennsylvania.

She married Peter SPIELMAN, Sr.(Speelman, Spealman also seen) who was born a twin on 11 Aug 1783 in Maryland. During the War of 1812 he served in the Militia as a Private in the 2nd Heath Regiment. [1]

Variations of family surname spellings include ...

Rodeman, Roadman, Rodman, Redman
Spielman, Speelman, Spealman

Many immigrants of olden times were unable to read & write (including this Eva [2]). American census takers of the time would inscribe the surnames according to what they heard.

Oral History

Personal Note: (Oral History) Several Spielman/Speelman/Spealman (Various spellings in census for the same people) married various Stotler’s & Families from the area prior to 1850s. It was reported orally that the Spielman’s were known for their dark olive skin that were a result of their Redman bloodline, which was handed down to many descendants as being Native American or Dark German. They were considered “White” in Census records, Military Records gives a Dark Rudy Complexion in description with blue eyes for some relatives. Many of the old graves in the area are lost or are unreadable today. Also as many deaths occurred during the Wars & Indian Raids, some of the Stotler & Speilman Families raised Lost relative’s children or adopted others. It is said that these families may all be linked to John Sr. Stotler & Jakob Spielman. The book “They Passed this Way” in the Hancock Md. Historical Society (Located Across the bridge from Berkley Springs) states the Redman lines are of Wolverton Redman. It is unknown if Wolverton Redman is related to the Wolverton Surname Families of the area. All of these families served in America’s Early Wars. George Washington & his Scout visited Bath Virginia (now Berkley Springs WVa).

Are there any verified sources/documents that connect her to John and Eve Roadman? All the records indicate her maiden name is Redman not Roadman.
