After marriage the newly-wedded couple settled at Hannam Vale, where the late Mr. Redman selected, being the third selector in that area.

He was the original grantee of Lot 129 and Lot 144 at the Upper Stewarts River. Francis Redman named his selection Hannam Vale, and the family home was located opposite where the Hannam Vale Hall now stands.[2]He operated the post office, and when he found that the name "Upper Stewarts River" was too long to fit on the mail stamp, he used his farm's name, "Hannam Vale", instead. Redman was also instrumental in having the Hannam Vale School's first teacher appointed by providing a residence on his property.[3]
