Katherine was born in Piet Retief and finished schooling in Ixopo with a 1st Class JC, where she then worked as a typist in the Magistrate’s Court, & met her future husband.
She was a keen hockey player and an avid reader. She had a very bad experience while learning to drive, when steering cable snapped going down the Hella Hella Pass to Umzimkulu River, & took many years to pluck up courage to try driving again.
Kathy played badminton in Police College (Pretoria) representing Northern TVL. She loved gardening, invariably establishing a rose garden at all her homes.
Kathy joined Municipal staff in Greytown, and became secretary to the Town Clerk and Mayor’s assistant.
Kathy loved having all the grand children to fuss over & spoil, making doll’s clothes for the girls & shorts etc for them, She was very active in Methodist Church as Sunday School Supt & Women’s Auxiliary (President).
Kathy: took very ill after a sinus operation in 1981, & subsequently died of renal failure due to massive med dosages to contain rampant post-operative septicaemia. She is buried in Greytown Cemetery.
