Famous early New Zealand settler - "James REED"

Originally born Maurice Phillippe de Monboissier Beaufort de Canillac, his family fled France during the revolution, leaving him with servants, from whom he fled as a boy to sea where he was adopted by a James Reed of England.

Buried 25 Nov 1876 At Stoke Point, Devonport, Auckland New Zealand

Note... a son of the same name died one month earlier - and the two men are often merged as one.
