Mrs. Martha Reed Alcorn, aged 80 years, five months and nine days.

Mrs. Alcorn was born in Westmoreland county Oct. 20, 1827. She was married to Thomas Alcorn, March 30, 1853. To them were born eleven children, of which three sons and six daughters are living. A few years after they were married they bought a farm near Goheenville, Pa. where they have since resided.

She was a child of the covenant, and when quite young united with the Covenanter Church of which her parents were members, and continued her membership in that Church until her marriage, when she transferred her letter to the Concord Presbyterian church, of which her husband was a member.

In this church she had been an active and useful member for many years, being president of the Home and Foreign Missionary Societies for eight years, and a teacher in the Sabbath school for many years. She loved the Psalms, and as a result of her early training and delight in them could quote them with a freedom that many a minister might covet.

Mrs. Alcorn loved the church. She felt as the psalmist did when he said, 'How amiable are thy tabernacles, O Lord of Hosts, my soul longeth, yea even fainteth for the courts of thy house.'

She was respected by all who knew her; to know her was to bear testimony to her Christian character and worth. She was an invalid for years, and although at times she suffered much, yet she bore it with Christian patience and submission.

She will be missed by many, but most of all by her aged husband, who is in his 82nd year, and to whom she had been for so many years a true and devoted wife. She will also be greatly missed by her children, to whose memory she will always be precious, for it was at her knee that they were taught the name of Jesus, and to list that name in prayer.

As a result of her training she was permitted to see all of her children confess Christ and unite with the Church, and to see her youngest son, in his own church, bearing the emblems of the broken body and shed blood of her Saviour. 'He giveth his beloved sheep, Asleep in Jesus, blessed sleep, From which none ever wakes to Weep'
