Biography

Daughter of John P. Reed, a storekeeper from Ireland, and his wife, Caroline, Catherine was born in Charleston in February of 1838. The family lived in the Parish of St. Phillip and St. Michaels in Charleston.^[1]Catherine was the oldest of four children in 1850:

Caroline M (bc 1849)

The family also had housekeeper, Catherine King, living in the house in Charleston.

Catherine married John Meroney sometime between 1860 and 1863. She is mentioned on the 1880 and 1900 federal census records, in the household of John S. Meroney and their children. She is also mentioned in the Social Security claim for her daughter, Katherine Meroney Ledwich^[2] They had four children:

Alma A. Meroney (b. 1873)

Katherine Ledwich H. Meroney (b. 1873)
