Biography

Robert Tedman Reed was born on 14 October 1832 in Macedon, Wayne, New York to Nathan Stone Reed and Mary Ann Tedman.

His mother died when he was two, after which his father remarried. He and his siblings were raised primarily on a farm in West Walworth; his father owned 90 acres of land at the 1850 census. Robert attended the Macedon Academy, a private co-ed Quaker secondary school.

Robert married Mary Ann Hoag in March 1853 in either Macedon or West Walworth. Together they had nine children: Emma Jane, Eva D, Charles White, Florence Ada, John F, Lewis R, Stephen Albert, Della B, and Caroline Elizabeth. They lived on a farm in West Walworth that was 71 acres at its peak. He would live on and tend to this land for the rest of his life.

He was appointed an overseer of highways of West Walworth in three separate years: 1898, 1901, and 1904. He was a Freemason and member of Walworth Lodge No. 254, F. & A. M.

Robert passed away on 13 August 1906 in West Walworth and is buried in Macedon Center Cemetery.
