Amory was born in 1834 on St. Thomas Island in the Danish West Indies, the daughter of John Amory Reed and Ann Eliza Rogiers. Her father died a few months before she was born.
She married Carl Georg Heise in 1850 and they had six children. The first four children were born on St. Thomas and the later two were born in Hamburg, Germany.
Amory passed away in 1911.
Her grandson Carl Georg Heise wrote in 1960: I felt close to both grandmothers until the beginning of my third decade of life: the charming Amory Heise (born Reed), born in Central America with her amiable, childish cheerfulness ....
