Biography

Charles Reel was born in Meade County, South Dakota, May 3, 1890 to Noah and Mary Emma Reel..[1]

His World War 1 Draft Registration card, dated June 5, 1917, lists Charles Leonard Reel, of Dudley, Kootenai, Idaho born May 3, 1890 in Sturgis, South Dakota. He listed his occupation as farmer and said his father was solely dependent on him for support. He lists his age as 26 and states he is single. He also claims exemption from the draft on the grounds of physical disability. The nature of the disability is listed but unreadable. Possibly says asthma. It says he is of medium height and build with gray eyes. [2]

Charles Reel died April 24, 1978. His last residence was Brush Prairie, Washington and he is buried at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Vancouver, Washington. [3] [4]

Marriages

There are three marriage records on file in Washington state for Charles Reel. The digital records have two marriages for Charles Reel on the same day, October 19, 1918. One to Winnie Scranton and one to Minnie Scranton. It would appear that one of these records is a correction. [5]

The third marriage record is for Charles L Reel and Lucille W Buchanan married on June 17, 1951. [6]

The 1920’s Census shows Charles and Winnie living in Williams Valley, Washington with 3 children and a nephew. Two children, Jack and Agnes, were born before Charles and Winnie were married so there may be a prior marriage for one of them. Charles’s occupation is farmer.
