Biography

Ellen (Nelly) Rees 1894 St Brides Married William Lewis 1897

Ellen (Nelly) Rees was the daughter of Isaac Rees and his wife Jane Harries. Nelly was born in 1894, and can be found on the 1901 census for St Bride’s parish, living at the family home with her parents. We next find Nelly aged 17 and is still living at home with her parents at Orlandon Kilns St Brides. Nelly’s occupation is recorded as being a dressmaker.

Nellie Rees married William Lewis in 1925. The marriage is recorded in the Haverfordwest District of Pembrokeshire The couple went on to have at least three children, these are Herbert David Lewis born 1925, Gwyneth Lewis born 1928, and Elizabeth Jane Lewis born 1931.

The couple can be found on the 1939 registration taken at the outbreak of world war two. The address is given as Beacon House, Haverfordwest Rural District. The location is possibly near Bolton Hill quarry just off the Bulford Road. The property is located on a little road that ran from Bulford Road to the Dale Road. Also at that address is Jane Rees, Ellen’s widowed mother. There are others at the address, quite possibly the children, but their details have been withheld for privacy.

Ellen Lewis died in 1973 aged 80. Her death is recorded in the Haverfordwest District of Pembrokeshire
