Biography

Emeroy Rees was born in Battle Creek, Michigan on July 19, 1867. She was the daughter of Lambert Burghardt Rees and Margaret Elizabeth Lawler whose families came from New York and were early settlers in Michigan. (It would be interesting to know how Emeroy acquired her unusual name.) On November 20, 1895, Emeroy married Morris Wolf, another descendant of early settlers. His ancestors were of German descent and came from Pennsylvania. Emeroy and Morris only had one child, Florence Ella Wolf (1896-1932). She married Monroe Chappelear who travelled in the course of his work and they had one child, Louis, who was raised by Emeroy and Morris after his mother's early death. He can be seen below in the 1940 census living with his elderly grandparents. Morris died in 1940. Emeroy died in 1951. She is buried at Prairie River Cemetery, Centreville, St. Joseph, Michigan.

On the 20th of November, 1895, was solemnized the marriage of Mr. Wolf to Miss Emeroy Rees and they have one daughter, Florence Ella, born December 23, 1896, who is now attending the public schools of Centerville. Mrs. Wolf was born near the city of Battle Creek, Calhoun county, Michigan on the 19th of July, 1867, and is a daughter of Lambert Burghardt Rees and Margaret Elizabeth Lawler Rees. She is a communicant of St. Thomas' church, Protestant Episcopal, at Battle Creek. Mrs. Wolf is the most gracious chatelaine of their beautiful home and is a prominent and valued factor in connection with the best social activities of the community....

Mrs. Morris D. Wolf

Mrs. Emeroy Rees Wolf, 84, of 158 North avenue, widow of Morris D. Wolf, died at 8 a.m. today in a local hospital following a long illness. She was born in Battle Creek township, July 19, 1867, a daughter of Lambert and Margaret Burghadt (sic) and married Mr. Wolf Nov. 20, 1895, in Centerville. He died in Detroit, June 28, 1940. Mrs. Wolf was a member of the St. Thomas Episcopal church. She is survived by a son-in-law, Monroe Chappelear of Maplewood, N.J., and a grandson, Lieut. Louis Chappelear, stationed at Fort Benning, Ga.
