Biography
Gertruyd Rees was born March 11, 1731 in Columbia County, New York. She was baptized in Athens Zion Lutheran Church, on May 9, 1731, daughter of Benjamin & Gertruyd Ros. Witnesses were Casper Halenbek & Marytje wife of Garrit Van Hoesen. [1]
On 3 May 1752, in the Rhinebeck Reformed Church. when Gertruyd was 21, she married William Bartel, son of Andreas Bartel (ca 1692-) & Sophia Elisabeth Mertz [2]
William and Gertruy were witnesses at several baptisms:
1752 for their nephew Willem Bressie (son of Catharina Rees);
1754 for their neice Madilena, daughter of Johannes & Geertruy Bartel;
1756 for Gertruy Race, daughter of Cornelius (who was Gertruy’s first cousin);
1757 for Willem & Philip, sons of Jacob Bouwer & Grietje Bartel;
1758 for their neice Geertruy Harder (daughter of Maria Rees);
1763 for Wilhelmus, son of Jannes Best & Eva Launert;
1776 for Jocobus (in Albany, son of Jacobos Proper and Eva Althouser).
