Biography

Thomas (Tom) George Rees 1897 Marloes Married Martha (?) 1901

Thomas Rees or Tom as he is also known as was born 22nd June 1897. But his actual place of birth is recorded as either Marloes or the Hamlet of St Martin Haverfordwest. It will need his birth certificate to determine which location is correct. Tom was the son of George Rees and his wife Mary Evans.

Tom makes his first appearance aged 3 on record when he is recorded on the 1901 census for the old parish of the Hamlet of St Martin Haverfordwest, living at home with his parents, and siblings at Cuckoo Grove Cottage. His siblings at that address are, Mary Ann (b 1893) Martha Ellen (b 1895) Elizabeth Jane (b 1896) and William George (b 1900)

Tom is next recorded in 1903, when he is enrolled at Lambston (Sutton) school, his address is given as Cuckoo St Martin, which I assume is the same address as the 1901 census. But by 1909 the family have moved to Ambleston, when Tom is enrolled at that Woodstock N V School that year. The following year he and his family have moved to Broad Haven, and he is enrolled at that school. He is also recorded as leaving that school on the 30th June 1911 to start work on a farm. Unfortunately the farm is not mentioned. He is also recorded on the 1911 census, as living at home with his parents earlier in that year. With Tom and his parents are four of his siblings, Willie (William) Edith (b 1905) Sidney (b 1907) and Howard (b 1911).

After the 1911 census I lose track of Tom, but there is a possibility that he may have married, and was living at Keeston in the parish of Camrose. I say possibly as the following data is similar, but the date of birth is recorded as 22nd July, and not as 22nd June. But the year is correct. I am assuming that either he or the enumerator put the wrong month. With him at that address is Martha Rees born 20th March 1901. I am assuming that she is his wife, but as yet I cannot be sure as I have not found a marriage record. Beyond the 1939 registration I have no further data regarding Tom.
