Charles was born in 1755 to David Reese and Ruth Polk in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.
Charles Reese was listed as a son in the Last Will and Testament of David Reese, written in 1787, and bequeathed 30 pounds, also if his brother Solomon should die without wife or issue, his part would have been divided between Charles and others.[1]
Based on the Pension Roll of 1835 for Davidson County, Tennessee, CHARLES T. REESE died in 1830. The Roll recorded:
One "CHARLES T. REESE of the county of Maury, Tennessee claimed to be placed on the Pension list of the United States, and produced Captain JOHN GORDON a credible witness...said CHARLES T. REESE was a soldier in his company of spies at the Cahawba Villages or near them after the battle of the horse shoe in May 1814, he received a wound from gun shot to his thigh it appeared to be a very dangerous wound...19 Aug 1817...signed John Gordon, Capt. of Spies."[2] The file contains a Treasury Department Militia Certificate dated 21 Oct 1818 showing: "CHARLES REESE" a Private of Capt. Gordon's company of spies is mustered in service from the 1 Jan 1814 to the 10th May 1814 for which he does not appear to have been paid. At the bottom of the certificate is recorded "CHARLES REESE" was wounded on 1 May 1814.
The attached daughter, ELEANOR REESE was married in Maury County, Tennessee in 1816 which helps validate the Pension record is for this CHARLES T. REESE.
He passed away in 1830.[3]
This Charles T. Reese is not the same Charles Reese who served in South Carolina during the Revolutionary war. That Charles Reese was documented owning land in 1768 in South Carolina, and is a relation of one William Reese.
According to "Genealogy of the Reese Family in Wales and America, From their Arrival in America to the Present Time", this Charles Reese left home, and went to live among the Indians, and there married an Indian princess, a daughter of Adair, and was thus connected with the Adairs and Boudinots...[4] It should be noted that no sources were recorded in the book to attest to the facts the author stated concerning this Charles Reese and the Cherokees.
The sentence below regarding the spouse of Polly Desha is not accurate. Parker Sams research claims James Reese as the spouse of Polly Desha was a clerical error made by the WPA. The marriage bond record does exist and it clearly shows Polly (another name for Mary) married Charles Reese. The bondsman was James Desha, brother of Mary. [5] In a 1796 lawsuit, Robert Desha names son-in-law Charles Reese. [6]
The records of Sumner County, Tennessee recorded James Reese married Polly Desha on that date. Transcription error. See above.

It appears that the Cherokee Charles Reese whose Cherokee mother was Nancy McPherson, according to Emmett Star, or Anna McPherson, according to the Brainerd Journal, was perhaps the son of the Charles Reese in South Carolina and Franklin County, Georgia. With that in mind, I am removing the South Carolina and Georgia information from the biography, and setting up a new profile for that Charles Reese.

CHARLES' brother, GEORGE REESE, removed to Sumter County, South Carolina in 1785. CHARLES REESE was also documented in South Carolina having served in Col. Wm. HILLS regiment under the command of Gen. THOS. SUMTER of the state of South Carolina. Col. WILLIAM HILL was commander of York County, SC forces formerly Camden District. Sumter county was one of the counties created from Camden District.
On 13 June 1785, CHARLES REESE of the State of Georgia and county of "Frankland" conveyed his indent for his ten months service to Capt. NATH'L MARSHALL MARTIN of said troops in Col. Wm. POLKS Regiment.<ref>South Carolina Department of Archives and History, Rees, Charles, Account Audited (File No. 6312) Of Claims Growing Out Of The American Revolution. This information has been placed on [[Reese-3301 | Charles Gullet Reese]. It needs to be reviewed to see if this Charles T. Reese is the same as Charles Gullet Reese.
