Joseph Eugene Reeves of St. Paul Homes, 339 E. Jamestown Road, West Salem Township, formerly of 149 Hempfield Ave., Hempfield Township, passed away at 11 p.m. Friday (1-4-08) in the emergency room of UPMC Horizon, Greenville. He was 89.
A son of the late Jodie A. and Laura Ellen Bagley Reeves, he was born July 5, 1918.
He served in the Army from 1944 to 1946 during World War II and was awarded a Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal and the European Theater Service Medal with two Bronze Stars.
On June 16, 1963, he married the former Alma A. Leffler, who survives at home.
An automotive machinist, Mr. Reeves was employed from 1970 to 1983 at Wagner Wheel Alignment in Greenville.
He had also worked from 1946 to 1970 at Burns Auto Parts, also in Greenville.
Mr. Reeves was a member of First Baptist Church in Greenville, where he also served as a deacon trustee and head usher.
A member of the national Veterans of Foreign Wars, he was also an avid bowler and belonged to the Greater Greenville Bowling League for more than 50 years.
He was also well-known for collecting and repairing clocks.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, James, Durham, N.C.; and David and his wife Lori, Greenville; two sisters, Margaret Strange, Masury; and Clara Fitzsimmons, Cortland; a brother, Roy, Kinsman; and four grandchildren, one stepgrandchild and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Mary Ellen Reeves and Roberta Marks; two brothers, Glenn and George; and three sisters, Retta Hegel, Martha Hudson and Ellen Herron.
