Hope Reeves was born in Gloucester County, New Jersey. As the oldest child born to parents who married in 1728, her year of birth is guesstimated as 1729. She is the daughter of Henry Reeves and Abigail Shinn. Hope and her siblings were still minors at the time of her father's death in 1745. His will stipulated that all his holdings should be sold and divided equally among his children and wife. He also made specific provision for their education, so it is likely that Hope was well educated. Hope's mother was a Quaker, but it is unclear whether Hope was raised as a Quaker. She did, however, marry a Quaker.
In 1749, Hope married Joseph Haines, the son of Thomas Haines and Rebecca Foster, in Monmouth, New Jersey. Hope and Joseph were married by the state rather than in a Quaker Meeting. The couple owned land and farmed in Chesterfield Township, Burlington County, New Jersey. Not much is known about Hope and Joseph Haines' family. Hope and Joseph are thought to have had at least five children, three sons and two daughters. However, the only children known by name are:
Hope died before 1771, the year Joseph married her sister, Mary Reeves.
