It worries me that none of Thomas (1735) grandsons are named after him and that none of the descendants of Roger (father of Joseph ca 1695) are named after him. Instead the name carried on is Joseph.

If he died 1 June 1810 and was buried 5 June 1810 in Carshalton what is the source for that information? It is not found at FreeReg which now seems to be the only freely accessible reliable source, for pre 1837 baptisms, marriages, burials.

His marriage on FamilySearch has him as Joseph Ruffle but a researcher of Ruffle families told me the Joseph married to Sarah Long signed his name Joseph Reffell..

This was incorrect but is now correct. It is Joseph 1765 son of Thomas 1735 who is the father of Joseph 1789-1848 and James 1791 not Joseph 1756 son of Joseph 1695 and Sarah nee Harrison. Joseph 1756 married Susanna nee Taylor. Joseph 1765 married a Sarah.
