Biography
Charles Reffitt was born 17 Jan 1891[1] in. He is the son of George Reffitt.
- In 1910 Charles A[2] Reffett was living in Hardwicks Precinct, Powell County, Kentucky, United States with his family. He was 10 years old born in Kentucky. His mother Lucinda McRoberts was 35 (May 1875) born in Kentucky, has 5 children with 5 living. His step-father James McRoberts was 26 (Oct 1873) born in Kentucky, married 5 years and working as a farmer. The others in the home were siblings: Eliza Jane 13 (Oct 1886); Nannie 12 (Jun 1888); James 11 (Feb 1889); half-sister Mandy McRoberts (1898).[3]
- In 1910 Charles McRoberts was living on Peck Ave., Hamilton, Butler County, Ohio, United States with his family in a home they own with a mortgage. He was 20 born in Kentucky and working in a carriage factory. His step-father James McRoberts was 37 born in Kentucky, married 13 years, working as a laborer. His mother Lucinda was 45 born in Kentucky and has 13 children with 8 living. The others in the home were siblings: Mandy 11; John W 8; Martha 4; Ollie Mae 2; Nora Lee 11 months. [4]
Charles Reffitt married Marie Carter 27 Feb 1912 in Kenton County, Kentucky, United States.[5]
- In 1920 Charles Reffitt was living on Dixie Highway, Springfield Township, Hamilton County, Ohio, United States with his family in a rented home. He was 27 born in Kentucky, working as a molder in a factory and can read but not write. His wife Marie was 21 born in Ohio and can read and write. The others in the home were children: Russel 5; Louise 3; Melba 2; James 1.[6]
There are many newspaper articles about the murder of Tolzee Henry by Charles Reffitt. Reffitt shot the widower Henry twice in the head. [7] Charles Reffitt claims it was self defense. The gun in police custody has the initials of the victim on it and Reffitt claims he took the gun from Henry. A letter from Henry to Mrs. Reffitt is in the possession of attorney.[8] Reffitt's wife Marie claims she was not receiving advances from Henry and that Henry was sitting in a chair when he was shot after a quick argument with Reffitt.[9] Victim's name listed as Talvin Henry. Reffitt's wife and oldest daughter will be called to the stand. Letter from Henry to Mrs. Reffitt appears to be destroyed.[10] Eldest daughter testifies that Henry had given the gun to Charles Reffitt and she had seen him polish it and pull it from his pocket that day.[11] The case went to the Jury. A son was also questioned and sided with his father. - In 1930 Charles Reefitt was living on Central Ave., Hamilton, Hamilton County, Ohio, United States with his family in a rented home. He was 37 born in Kentucky, working as a molder in a foundry and can read but not write. His wife Zella was 18 born in Kentucky and can read but not write. The others in the home were children: Russel 15; James 11; [14]
Charles Reffitt died 2 Jan 1965.[1][2]
He was buried in the Rose Hill Burial Park, Hamilton, Hamilton County, Ohio, United States.[15]
