Biography

Wiliam Reid was born in Dunfermline, Fife on the 13th Jan 1744 to John Reid and Janet Clark ^{[1] [2]} He was Baptised on the 19th of January 1744 in Dunfermline.

William married on the 4th April 1777 at the age of 33 to a Janet in Dunfermline ^[3] The records at Scotland's People confirm that this was a Janet Anderson ^[4] Also see research notes.

William and Janet had a number of children while living at Carnock, Fife which is only 5 miles from Dunfirmline. Also see research notes.

• Ebenezer christened 25.10.1788 ^[5]
• Margaret christened 30 Jul 1780 ^[6]
• Jean born 26 Jun 1782 and baptized 02 Jul 1782 ^[7] . It can be assumed that this Jean died young as a later child was also named Jean.
• John born 6th Jun 1784 and christened 18th Jun 1784 ^[8]
• David born 12 Mar 1786 and christened 19 Mar 1786 ^[9]
• Janet born 29 Apr 1788 and christened 11 May 1788 ^[10]
• Jean born 06 Mar 1790 and christened 07 Mar 1790 ^[11]
• William born 17 Aug 1792 christened 20 Aug 1792 ^[12]

Research Notes

• This profile originally had attributed to William Reid a first wife Janet McPherson and a son John Reid. I have detached him from this family as the son was born in Thurso at the same time as he was having a family in Fife and there is no records found so far to prove the relationship. There is a record for a John Reid born to Willian Reid and Janet McPherson in Thurso but I don't believe this to be the same Wiliam. Records searched.
