Biography

Scottish flag
Ellen (Reid) Wilson was born in Scotland.

Ellen Stephen Reid was born on 5 May 1872[1]. She was the eldest daughter of Wilhelm Bretz and Martha Winter.

In the Scotland Census of 1881, Helen Reid (aged 9) was living with her father William Reid (aged 32 and a Seaman), her mother Martha Reid (28) and her siblings James W Reid (11), William Reid (7), Alexander Reid (4), Charles Reid (1) and Albert Reid (1) at No. 1 Harbour Street, Peterhead, Aberdeenshire.

Ellen was 17 years old when her family emigrated from Scotland to New Zealand, departing London on 22 September 1889 and arriving into Wellington on board the Kaikoura on 6 November 1889[2]. Ellen's occupation was listed as Domestic. From there the family made their way to Auckland where her parents were proprietors of a fish shop and fishing vessels.

21 year old Ellen married John Wilson in 1893. Unlikely they had children.

Sadly Ellen passed away on 12 June 1895 at the age of 23. She was buried on 14 June 1895 at Waikumete Cemetery, Auckland, New Zealand[3][4]. Plot : PRESBYTERIAN DIVISION C, Row 3, Plot 6
