George was born on 28 August 1863 in Saint John, New Brunswick.[1] As of 1871, he was living with his family in Noel, Hants, Nova Scotia, and attending school.[2] As of 1881, he was still living in Noel with his family.[3]
George married Sarah Murphy on 28 May 1887 in Gore, and he was residing in Rawdon Mills at the time of marriage and working as a farmer.[4] As of 1891, he was living with his wife, son, and in-laws in Gore and working as a teamster.[5]
He may have immigrated to the United States in 1892,[6] though he claims to have arrived on 2 May 1888 by rail from Halifax on his naturalization papers.[1] This is unlikely, given that his son George was born in Nova Scotia in 1891.
George apparently returned to Nova Scotia and married Amy Anthony on 28 May 1894 in Kennetcook. He was residing in Rawdon mines at the time and working as a teamster.[7]
As of 1895, George was a teamster living in Cambridge.[8] As of 1900, he was living with his family at 77 Broadway in Cambridge. His sons Robert and George were living nearby with his parents.[6] The family then resided for a time, including 1901, at 245 Charles Street.[9][10] In 1908, he filed his declaration of intention to become a US citizen, though it appears he never became one. At the time, he claimed to be 5' 11", 195 pounds, with gray hair and gray eyes.[1]
As of 1910, following the death of his wife Amy, he was living with his parents, his sister Christina, and his children at 78 Thorndike Street in Cambridge and was still working at the teamster business that he owned.[11] George then married his third wife, Eliza White, on 4 August 1915 in Cambridge at Trinity Methodist Episcopal Church.[12] He was living at 88 Fourth Street at the time.[13] As of 1918, he was living at 24 Kensington Avenue in Somerville.[14] As of 1920, he was living with his wife Eliza at the same residence, along with his daughters Ruby and Ruth, his son Garnet, his daughter Georgina, and Georgina's family. He was probably working alongside his son Garnet as a teamster.[15] George was thrown from his wagon following a collision with a vehicle near Sullivan Square on 10 May 1929 and suffered injuries to his arms, body, and scalp.[16] As of 1930, he was living at the same address and working for a trucking company as a teamster.[17]
George was a member of Suffolk Lodge, I.O.O.F, and Mt Washington Encampment, I.O.O.F., of Boston. He attended the Grace Baptist Church.[18]
He passed away on 20 May 1931 at his family's residence in Somerville from carcinoma of the pelvis and an illness that dated back to his accident in 1929. He had retired in February 1930. His funeral followed at the family home on 22 May 1931, and he was buried the same day at Glenwood Cemetery in Everett.[18][19]
