I'm not convinced that Ellen Reid is her real name. DNA indicates she is of Crichton blood - so was she a child re-housed/orphaned/illegitimate?

PAINFULLY SUDDEN DEATHS.,Thames Advertiser, Volume XXIV, Issue 6943, 15 June 1891
It is our unpleasant duly this morning to chronicle the sudden death of Mrs Davies and Mr A. Clarke, both old residents of the Thames. In both instances death is ascribed to fits. DEATH OF MRS DAVIES. Quite a gloom was cast over the town yesterday morning when it became known that Mrs Davies, wife of Mr H. Davies, carter, residing in Amy street, on the Beach, had dropped down dead about 9 o'clock, whilst preparing breakfast. Mrs Davies had always been a strong healthy woman, but it appears that lately she had been suffering from pains in her stomach, and on Saturday night took a dose of pills to see if they would do her any good. Just a short time before the sad event took place Mrs Davies was again attacked with the pains, and asked her husband if he would obtain for her a little spirits as she thought that it might give her some relief. Not having any spirits in the house, Mr Davies went out to get some. He had been gone only a few minutes when Olive Percy, a little girl nine years of age - the daughter of a neighbour—went to Mrs Davies' place with some scraps for the fowls, and not receiving any answer to her knock, pushed open the door, and discovered Mrs Davies lying upon the floor of the kitchen with her mouth open. The child immediately ran and informed her mother, who sent her to look for Mr Davies, whom she soon found. Mr Davies, who had been absent from home only about a quarter of an hour at the utmost, quickly returned, only, however, to find that his wife was quite dead. Mrs Percy had promptly sent a message to Dr Callan, who, when he arrived, could do nothing but confirm the fact that Mrs Davies was beyond all medical assistance. Judging by appearances, it would seem that the deceased had taken a fit whilst in the act of making porridge for breakfast, as the saucepan was boiling over the fire, and her body was found close to the fireplace. Great sympathy is felt for Mr Davies and family in their sad bereavement. An inquest will probably be held to-day.

The death certificate is such a disappointment as it was reported by James Coombes the undertaker; it doesn't give parents- reports she married Hugh in Scotland at the age of 20 years, had been in New Zealand 36 years, and had 3 male, and 3 female children (gives ages) and that she lived at Amy St, Thames.
On 26 April 1904, Mary Smith of Ponsonby, Auckland purchased her parents burial plot at Shortland Cemetery. (Plot 2115, no headstone remains, but there is a twin trunk pine!)
Clutching at straws : In the area with an approximate birth date and same name in case she was 'adopted', rehoused and renamed... (so why don't we have any Reid DNA?? Or, as Ancestry suggests (intelligent matching), was she really Agnes Reid Gavin?
