Biography

"Family history has it that John, the eldest son of Stephen and Anna, went to far western Pennsylvania, and that his house burned. His children are listed as heirs in the petition filed in York by Michael Ridinger in 1800, although their number and names are not specified. While there is a John Ridinger listed in the Census of Ohio , records obtained from the LDS Church in the 1990’s indicate that John Ridinger moved to what was to become Bedford County, in what was then the far western portion of the state, fitting in with the family tradition and his brother Samuel’s statement in his application for Revolutionary War veteran benefits. The notice filed in the Orphans Court of York County in 1805 regarding the disposition of the property of his father Stephen Reitinger refers to John as deceased."
