Jan died while travelling overseas with three friends in a car accident in Germany in 1960. The other three survived. She was the only one killed. She is my cousin. I remember the day we were told she died. Her family lived around the corner from my family. My father told me that his sister, Jan's mother, was advised of her death by a newspaper reporter telling her after knocking on her door.
