Thank you for providing the link. I try to document all Reitz immigrant families to America.
Question - His surname on birth certificate is Reitsma. Was his use of 'Reitz' in America a personal choice, or does it reflect general practice in the Netherlands?
I have found both Reitsma and Reits in the U.S. from Holland. I know 'Reits' is Reitz, but Reitsma?
Albert must have changed his name for personal reasons, the Reitsma name is Frisian, the province of Friesland is where his ancestors came from.
Reitz is a German name, and I was looking if the above was connected to me some how as I have an ancestor Reitz that came to Amsterdam around 1795.
A descendant of his migrated to the US in 1893 his name was Hendricus Gerardus (Henry) Reitz (born may 26 1860 Amsterdam) married to Johanna Gezina Elizabeth Buttinger (born April 14 1861 Groningen). They ended up in Michigan I believe.
