Biography

George Remnant son of Richard Remnant and his wife, Elizabeth Ayling, was baptised at Petworth in Sussex on the 2 nd of January 1778. ^[1]

He married Sarah Wakeford, daughter of Thomas Wakeford and his wife, Sarah Longhurst, at Petworth on the 23rd of July 1799. ^[2] That was the year that William Pitt introduced progressive income tax to pay for the Napoleonic Wars. It was only payable on incomes of over £60 a year so perhaps it didn't bother George and Sarah at all. ^[3]

By 1841 they were living with a couple of their grown-up sons at Brickiln Common, Wisborough Green ^[4] where they continued to live out their lives. ^{[5] [6]}

George died in 1865. ^[7]
