Richard married four times. His first wife, Elizabeth Remching, was the eldest daughter of Richard Remching, gentleman, and Elizabeth his wife, of the old Manor House in the parish of Carbrooke. Before the wedding Richard legally tied up the freehold lands to the use of himself and his wife-to-be for their lifetime, with the remainder to go to the heir of their bodies after both of them had died. This type of marriage settlement could only be set aside or annulled with the consent of the next heir. Richard and Elizabeth (Remching) Lincoln had two children: a son Henry, born in 1574, died in infancy, and another son, Edward. Elizabeth Lincoln died while Edward was still very young. (est 1583, based on birth of Richard Jr by his second wife.
