Biography

Marie Françoise Renaud was born at Mascouche, L'Assomption parish, Quebec, 11 June 1775, and baptized the same day at Mascouche, daughter of Jean-Baptiste Renaud and Marie-Françoise Mulouin.[1] She died at Mascouche, 24 May 1857, aged 82 [sic], epouse de Jean Baptiste Ethier, and was buried in the cemetery of St Henri de Mascouche, 26 May 1857, in the presence of François Martel and François Renaud.[2]

She married, at Mascouche, 3 February 1794, as his second wife, Jean Baptiste Ethier, son of Jean Baptiste Ethier and Rosalie Duprat. They were married in the presence of Jean-Baptiste Ethier (father of groom), Jean-Baptiste Renaud (father of bride), Charles Renaud (brother of bride), Joseph Defoy, Jean-Baptiste Borbins, Michel Cochant, Joseph Renaud, Jean-Baptiste Renaud fils, and Pierre L’Eveille (friend).[3]

Jean Baptiste Ethier was born at Mascouche on the morning of 12 June 1767, son of Jean Baptiste Ethier and Marie Rosalie Duprat; and was baptized in St. Henri-de-Mascouche, the same day—his sponsors were Michel Renaud and Marie [surname omitted].[4] He died at Mascouche, 17 March 1853, aged 86 years [sic], epouse de Françoise Renaud, and was buried at Mascouche, 19 March 1853, in the presence of Jean-Baptiste Duprat and François Renaud. Church records show he was a cultivateur.[5]

The 1851 census of Canada East (Quebec) shows Jean-Baptiste Hétier and wife Françoise Renaud living with son André Hétier and his large family, at St. Henri parish.[6]
