Page 10 of the census shows Matthew Renn (49), wife Susan (48), their 12 children, Mathias (24), Peter (22), Mary (22), Joseph (20), Jacob (19). Andrew (17), Margaret (15), John (14), Lena (12), Katy (12), Anna (10), William (5) and father Peter (69) living in the home. Matthew, Susan and Peter were all born in Prussia, with the rest of the family being born in Indiana. [1]

1900 - Indiana, Floyd County, New Albany, District 59, 6 Jun 1900
Sheet 4A of the census shows Joseph Renn (40) as the head of the home, living with his brothers John (34) and William (25) and their sister Anna (27). All are single. They report they were all born in Indiana and their parents in Germany. The home is located om Dug Knob Road. They are all farmers. The farm is owned without a mortgage. [2]

1910 – Indiana, Floyd, New Albany, 809 11th Street
Anna Fetter, widowed (66). Living at her house also are Joseph Renn (50), wife Anna (42) and their children Louis M. (4), Robert W. (3) and Annie E. (8 mos.). Joseph is a polisher at a stone factory, the house is owned, Anna shows that 3 of her 4 kids are still alive and Anna (daughter) shows all 3 of children are still alive. Anna shows her immigration date as 1853. Joseph and Anna have been married 6 years. [4]

1920 - Indiana, Floyd, New Albany, 809 11th Street
Anna Fetter (76), widowed, is still living with her only daughters family. Also in the house are Joseph Renn (60), Anna (52), Louis (15), Robert W. (13), and Mary M. (7). The house is owned, Joseph is a millwright for a grain elevator company and Louis is a paper carrier. Anna shows 1853 as her immigration date. [5]

1930 - Indiana, Floyd County, New Albany, District 17, 2 Apr 1930
Sheet 1A of the census shows Joseph Renn (70), wife Anna F. (61) and children Louis M. (24) and Mary M. (17) living in the house at 808 Eleventh Street. The home is owned and valued at $5,000. Joseph reports he was 45 when first married and Anna was 34. Joseph reports his father was born in Pennsylvania and his mother in Germany and he in Indiana. Anna reports her father was born in France and her mother in Germany and she is Indiana. The children were born in Indiana. Joseph is a janitor in a department store and Louis is a bookkeeper for a furnace manufacturer. [6]

1940 - Indiana, Floyd County, New Albany, District 22-17, 27 Apr 1940
Sheet 15B of the census shows Jospeh Renn (80), wife Anna F. (71) and daughter Mary Margaret Morlan (26) and her husband Hirschel (32) living in the home at 808 11th Street. The home is owned and valued at $1,500. Joseph reports having a 6th grade education, Anna an 8th grade education and both Margaret and Hirschel report completing 4 years of high school. All report they were born in Indiana and were living in the same house in 1935. Neither Joseph or Anna report having a job. Hirschel is a shipping clerk and Mary Margaret a stenographer, both working at a furnace company. The both report having work 52 weeks in 1939 and he earned $1,200 and she $960. [7]

1942 - Indiana. Floyd County, New Albany
Joseph Renn, born 29 Aug 1859 in Clark County, Indiana, died 24 Sep 1942 at the age of 83. He was a salesman with the National Biscuit Company and a resident of 808 11th Street. His parents are listed as Matthew Renn, of Pennsylvania and Susan Schneider of Germany. The informant was his wife, Anna. He was buried at St Mary Cemetery. Cause of death was heart disease. [8]

Obituary
Renn - Joseph, 83 years of age, passed away at 6 a.m. Thursday, September 24, 1942, at his residence, 803 E. 11th St., New Albany. Survived by his wife, Mrs. Anna Renn, and son, Louis N Renn; daughter, Mrs. Herschel A [Mary Margaret] Marlen, and three grandchildren, four brothers, Andrew of Louisville, John of Detroit, Matthias and William of Clark County, Indiana; sister, Mrs. Anna Popp, Bennettsville, Ind. Remains are at the Kraft Funeral Parlors, 708 E. Spring St. He was a member of St. Mary's Church, where funeral services will be held Saturday, September 26, at 9 a.m. Interments in St. Mary's Cemetery. [9]
