Rachel was born about 1846. Rachel Renouf ... She passed away in 1940. Entered by Orinda Spence, Monday, September 30, 2013.
Rachel was very old when the island of Guernsey was occupied by the German army during WWII. She was moved to the top floor of Les Petit Hogueries, Vale, Guernsey, Channel Island and cared for there. She never knew that the island was occupied and died before it was unoccupied.
She was buried outside the main church in Guernsey because she was Methodist, the cemetery being Church of England. In Guernsey they bury more than one person in graves. She was 95 when she died. A grand old woman who gave birth to 11 children and as she grew old lost 6 of them. One daughter, Rachel Mahy Corbet died in child birth at the age of 30, others died as youngsters.
She is my great grandmother and I am in possession of her very tiny brown silk wedding dress. Amazing.
Channel Island census 1851 through 1901. Death date is known by living descendants
