Biography

Concepcion was born on 6 October 1915 in the town of Cottonwood located in Yavapai County, Arizona, United States. Concepcion also went by the nicknames of Concha and Connie. She was the daughter of Francisco Lopez Reyes and Refugia Yanez Lopez. Concepcion had four siblings: Rosa (Reyes) Gonzales, Mary Lopez (Reyes) Murillo, Josephine Lopez Reyes, and Eliodoro Reyes.

In 1930, Concha was living with her parents and siblings in Clarkdale, Yavapai County, Arizona.[1]

In March 1937, Concepcion gave birth to a son Roberto "Bob" Morales.[2] Bob passed in 2018.

Concepcion married Joseph Stephen Valenzuela on 15 September 1939 in Los Angeles, California.[3] They had a son, Richard Steven Valenzuela. He was a musician who went by the name of Ritchie Valens. He died in a plane crash in February 1959 at the age of 17.

In April 1940, Concepcion, her husband Joe, and her three-year-old son Bobbie Morales were living in San Fernando, Los Angeles County, California. They were living in a rented house at 11636 Dronfield, which they rented for $8 per month. Joe had been living at this address since at least 1935 and this appeared to be the only Hispanic residence in the neighborhood. Joe was working as a watchman at the sewer pumping station. In 1939, he had worked 30 weeks and earned $385.[4]

Death

Concepcion died on 18 October 1987[5] in Santa Cruz, California[6] at the age of 72. She was buried at San Fernando Mission Cemetery in Mission Hills, Los Angeles County, California.[7]
