Hugh was born January 18, 1818 in Fairfield County, South Carolina. He was the son of William Reynolds and Elizabeth Montgomery. [1]

His first marriage was to Martha Ann Hamilton (1823–1845) in Georgia, she passed away in 1845. Next, he married his cousin Mary Miranda Nason (1822–1877) in Starkville, Oktibbeha, Mississippi, she passed away in 1877. On February 13, 1879 he married Jane Catherine Frazier Jones (1842-1932) in Ouachita County, Arkansas. [2] She passed away in 1932. All of his children were from his first two marriages.

He passed away November 27, 1893 in Camden, Ouachita County, Arkansas. Hugh was laid to rest in Mount Horeb Cemetery, Elliott, Ouachita County, Arkansas, United States.
