Biography

Sutton was a Quaker and attended the Chappaqua, New York Monthly meetings. The records are very detailed and gives these specifics in the Marriage intentions, and dealings relating to marriage section, page 118:

"395 Sutton Reynolds, jr., of New Castle, son of Sutton and Anne (Carpenter), Maplet H. Carpenter, dau. of Peter and Deborah (Haight), of New Castle, 11.20.1817 at New Castle. (He, b. North Castle, 15.Feb.1794, d.19.Apr.1877, son of Sutton Reynolds, 18.Aug.1744-26.June 1828, m. 1776, Anna, dau. of Joseph T. Carpenter, 29.Mch.1759-23. Dec.1830, vid under Graveyard, 490, she, 1 Feb 1789-19 Apr 1959, dau. of Peter Carpenter, d. between 29 June-28Oct. 1833, m Deborah, dau. of Caleb Haight & Maplet, vid under 89)."[1]

Sutton Reynolds and Maplet H Carpenter announced their intention to marry at the 10 Oct 1817 and 13 Nov 1817 Chappaqua monthly meetings, with the marriage taking place at the 11 Dec 1817 meeting. The record also states that Maplet was received by request (from another meeting).[2]
