The correct wife was Ann "Nancy" Hotton. She and William Reynolds married outside the Quaker church. There are documents that indicate that William was in trouble for marrying outside the faith. It is possible that Ann "Nancy" later joined the Quaker religion as her children were raised in the Quaker faith. Also, her death was mentioned in Quaker meeting records.[1]
William was born November 15, 1737 in Chester County, Pennsylvania, the son of William Reynolds and Mary Brown. He was the twin of sister, Mary.[1][2][3]
Father, William received a Certificate of Removal for him and his family to North Carolina 20 April 1751 from East Nottingham MM Pennsylvania to Cane Creek MM. William and brothers David & Jeremiah joined New Garden and were granted a Certificate of Admittance 1759 at Guilford, North Carolina.
William Reynolds was named to sit on the Grand Jury for Guilford County in 1786[4]
William died 13 August 1787[5] and his estate was addressed 20 August 1787.[6]
"At a County Court of Please and Quarter Sessions begun and held for the County aforesaid on the third Monday in August 1787 being the 20th day
"On motion of John McNary Esr. Ordered that the administration of the Estate of William reynolds Deceased be granted to Anne Reynolds the widow and relut of said Deceased and John Stephenson who entered into bond with Robert Gulbreath and Isaac Jones in the sum of two hundred pounds for the faithfull discharge of their duty who came in and qualified according to law."
