Biography

Capt. Grindall Reynolds was born on October 12, 1755 in Bristol, Bristol, Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations. Grindall Reynolds Sr. named for his Great Grandfather, Rev. Grindall Rawson. Grindall Reynolds had three marriages, having children by all three. Married first: Abigail Rhoades, having three children - Dorothy, Polly and Rebecca. Married secondly, Mehitable Russell, who had one son John in May 1797. Both the mother and son died a year later in Nov 1798. Grindall Reynolds married, this his third wife, Cynthia Kendall on 09 Aug 1820. Their three children were Cynthia, Grindall and Henry. Grindall served in the American Revolution War in defense of Narragansett Bay, and achieved the rank of Lieutenant. Ref 1, often referred to him as a Captain? He passed away on May 8, 1847 at the age of 91 in Boston, Suffolk Massachusetts, USA.^[1]

A slight difference in his date of death is acknowledged. A Genealogical Summary referenced (below) Providence Vital Records, Deaths [titled] 'interments" 8:153, which says Grindall, a non-resident, died in Boston on 17 May, 1847. Family records do not reflect that date.

He was buried Swan Point Cemetery in Providence (below).

Acknowledge the large spread in the birth years of his 7 children by three wives: 1780, 1784, 1789, 1797, 1821, 1822, 1830.
