Biography

John was born in 1854 at Little Bolton, Lancashire, England and christened the following year at Bolton. He is the son of Charles Rhodes, a store keeper then file manufacturer and Mary Graham.

John married Margaret Booth at Bolton in 1877.

The census of 1881 records John and Margaret with a 2 year old daughter or possibly a niece Mary J Rhodes, in the home of John's father Charles at 10 Davenport Street, Little Bolton. His mother spent census night at the home of John's sister.^[1]

In 1891, John is a File Manufacturer and living with wife Margaret and their two children Sarah J Rhodes and Charles H B Rhodes at 19 Davenport Street, Little Bolton.

Wife Margaret passed away in September 1894 at only 39 years of age, leaving John with the care of his children.

Daughter Sarah (Nettie) passed away on 17 October 1899 and John passed away himself the next day, on 18 October 1899 at Bolton. 9 year old Daughter Margaret Alice also passed way the following November. They are all buried at St Peter's Church yard, Halliwell, Bolton, Lancashire. ^[2]
