Biography

Elisha Rhodes was born in 1793. Elisha came with his father Henry Rhodes from North Carolina to Webberville, Travis, Texas in 1833. They received land grants and returned to North Carolina. They returned to Texas in 1838, received more land grants and returned once again to North Carolina. In 1840, Elisha returned to Texas and brought his family, including Byren Jenkins, his two younger brothers and his mother to Texas, settling twelve miles north of Austin.^[1] They moved to Williamson County, around 1849. He and his wife lived at Pond Springs, Texas on a grant patented by Henry Rhodes on March 12, 1841. He was a postmaster in Pond Springs in 1857. The elder Henry Rhodes lived in their household until he died in 1853. The 1850 Williamson Co., Texas census has an Elisha Jenkins age 8 and a Henry Rhodes age 74 in residence.

Elisha had possession of Jacob and Sally Rhodes' estate after their death.

He died on 11 July 1863 in Pond Springs, Williamson, Texas, and is buried in Rhodes Cemetery, ^{[2] [3][4]}His headstone reads:

Probate

Elisha Averitt Rhodes left no known will and his estate went into probate in Williamson County on September 15, 1863. His administrator was his son-in-law, Hiram Jeptha Crump. The record shows the following heirs to the estate: Rachael Rhodes — widow of Elisha Rhodes deed, Fanny Prewitt, Lavinia Rhodes, Margaret Crump, Sarah Harris of California and Martha Rhodes - widow of Daniel Rhodes deceased of North Carolina.
