RHODES, Vernie Thomas – Passed away on October 3, 1997 at the age of 75 at his home in Portland, Oregon after a long illness. He was born to Frank and Ollie Rhodes, March 3, 1922 in Arkansas. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II in the European Theater. He was a member of the V.F.W. He was preceded in death by his mother and father; wife, Mary Lee; wife Evelyn; brother, Henry Rhodes; brother, James E. House. Survivors include his four sons, Wayne and Raymond of Arkansas, Charlie of New Mexico and Freddy of Portland; two daughters, Brenda of Arkansas and Melodie of Portland; one brother, James W. House; four sisters, Eula Bratton and Fay McCool both of Roseburg, Frances Townley of Benton, Arkansas and Majorie Meddley of Marlvern, Arkansas; 10 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service was held at the Willamette National V.A. Cemetery in Portland, Oregon on October 7, 1997 at 1 p.m. Services were conducted by Chaplain Roger of the V.A. Medical Center.
