Mathias was born before 1700. He passed away in 1777.

Research Notes

No baptism found at Kippax for Mathias Rhodes in June 1700. The nearest before is 10 June 1686 "Mathew et Mathias filij Mathei Rhodes bapt. June 10° spur."^[1] As the children are illegitimate (spur.) then they may have taken their mother's name and there is a burial of "Matheus Rhodes alias Jackson" on 25 June (same page).

The son John attached here is said to be born 1726 but his likely date of birth is about 1708 as he is said to have been aged 82 at death according to the family pedigree for the College of Arms.^[2] This pedigree was made in the lifetime of John's grandson William so is likely to be roughly correct for his grandfather's age at death. There are children of John Rhodes baptised at Kippax from about 1735, too early for the present birth and marriage.

None of the dated events given here for Mathias, his wife, or his parents, appear in the Kippax register, and the names of his mother and wife do not appear at all.
