Lelle Rhodes was born February 9, 1864 in Groton, Tompkins County, New York. She was the daughter of Dana and Sarah (Jacobs) Rhodes. [1]
On May 18, 1892 she married Fred A. Mangang, a musician and piano tuner.
The Groton Journal covered the wedding and published a lengthy article describing the bright, sunny day, how the church was elaborately decorated, and the exact time guests began to arrive. It included the names of each member of the wedding party, the ushers and the clergy; and finally a description of the wedding dress and how the bride was “a picture of loveliness, admired by all.”
In 1900, Fred and Lelle were in Ithaca, Tompkins County, New York and later had a home on Giles Street in Ithaca. His occupation was a musician for the theater and she was a teacher. [4] [5]
In January 1914, Lelle held a 75th birthday dinner party for her father. The feature of the event was a huge cake with 75 candles. That May he died as a result of an accident but it didn’t hold her back from their Memorial Day plans.
Fred Mangang died in 1920. By 1925, Lelle had moved back to Groton and was in the household of her brother. [6] [7] [8]
She died September 14, 1942 in Groton, New York at 78 years, 7 months and 5 days. She is buried in Groton Rural Cemetery. [9] [10]
