Private Daniel Budlong Jr

"He (Daniel Budlong Jr) was a private soldier at Newport, Rhode Island where he was taken sick with camp fever and was removed to the home of Capt. John Rhodes, his father-in-law, at Warwick, Rhode Island where he died. The name of the Co7(?) and Req. to which he belonged and the exact date of his death has not been ascertained owing to the fact that many of the military records of Rhode Island have not been preserved. An inquiry at the Pension Office atWashington, DC furnished only a presumption that, if they were ever placed on file there, they were probably destroyed when in 1814 the British Army burned the Capitol and other public buildings.
"In naming the year 1776 as the year of the service sickness and death of his great grand-father Daniel Budlong, then eighty one years of age (meaning the applicant Samuel Newell Dada), stated to this applicant that his father was a Revolutionary soldier and died of camp fever when he was but seven years old and that he was thereafter brought up by his grand-father Daniel Budlong a Baptist Minister. There were three Daniel Budlongs. The one who made the statement was born Jan. 14th 1769 as was recorded by him in his family Bible, and from such facts the date of the revolutionary service of such ancestor is fixed at 1776.
"On page 158 of “Frances of Rhode Island” compiled from Miss. of Major General George Sears Graeme U.S.V. it is stated “Daniel Budlong who married Sarah Rotes (sic) was born Oct 6 1741. He was a Revolutionary soldier and died of camp fever during the war at the home of his father-in-law Capt John Rhodes. He was buried in the Budlong burial ground.” [1]
Sarah is said to be a direct descendant of Roger Williams, founder of Providence, RI. This needs to be verified. http://www.budlong.org/genealogy/budln001.htm#id923
