Based on his first appearance in the tithing list, birth would have been on or before 1748.
• 1764 – William Rhodes, Jr. appears in the List of Tithes (taxes), Lunenburg County, Virginia.[1]
William Rhodes recorded with 200 acres of land. John, son of William, had no land. A William Rhodes (assumed Jr.) was living with Constable James Pulliam who paid taxes on one tithe and 100 acres of land. William would have been the tithe since James was exempt from taxes as a Constable. This was the first recorded data for John and William Rhodes Jr.
• 1769 – William Rhodes, Jr. appears in the List of Tithes (taxes), Lunenburg County, Virginia. William is recorded as William Rhodes, Junr.[2]
• 1772 – William Rhodes Sr. has added Drury Rhodes to his tithes. William Rhodes Jr. and John Rhodes appear separately. A Randolph Rhodes was living With William Munn.[3]
• 1774 – John Rhodes, William Rhodes, and Randolph Rhodes are each listed separately. William Rhodes (Sr assumed) still has Drury Rhodes listed in his home. Joel Pewett first appears this year. He is the likely father of Sally Pewett who married Elisha Rhodes, son of William Rhodes Sr.[4]
• 1775 – William Rhodes and Drury Rhodes are listed together. Randolph Rhodes is listed in the home of William Rhodes, Jr. Joel Pewett has a Capt. George Phillips and Wm. Brown with him. [5]
• 1782 – William Rhodes and William Rhodes, Jr. are taxed on 1 white male and 5 slaves each.[6]
• 1 Nov 1786 – William Rhodes Sr.'s writes his Last Will and Testament. His Will names sons Elisha, William, John, and daughter Sarah. The will does not include his wife who likely has passed. Randolph Rhodes may also be a son. The handwriting regarding the assignment of the executors is unclear as to whether "son" is plural or singular. Randolph is an executor but is not included in the will. Drury Rhodes is also not in the will. The Will was proved on 8 Dec 1788. One of the witnesses to the Will was Lucy Rhodes. This was the first mention of Lucy and it is not clear what her relationship was to William. She may have been the spouse of Randolph Rhodes, or the daughter of John Rhodes. [7]
